Requirements and admission criteria of the doctoral programme

• Specific requirements (2025-2026 academic year)
  In addition to the general entrance requirements for doctoral studies, applicants must meet the following specific requirements:

• The first degree should be in biochemistry, biotechnology, biology, chemistry, nutrition and dietetics, science and food technology, medicine, biomedical sciences, genetics or another field of biosciences, life sciences or health sciences related to nutrition and metabolism. The master's degree should be also related with the field of biosciences, life sciences or health sciences related to nutrition and metabolism.

• Students who want to access the doctoral program without Having Conducted research credits, will Have to present a research paper, Which has Contributed in a Relevant way, Which will be reviewed by a committee of PhD program. This commission will judge one of the following:

  • A research Carried out for th purpose and supervised by a doctor professor at the URV

  • A research paper published in an indexed journal.

  • Two research papers presented at national conferences

  • A research paper presented at an international level Congress

• Proof of basic English.

• Specific requirements (2026-2027 academic year)   

                        In addition to the requirements indicated for the 2025-26 academic year:

• The candidate will have to be accepted by a research group of the programme.
• The candidate must present a support letter signed by a thesis supervisor of the programme who is committed to supervise this thesis so that the academic committee can valorate the admission.

• Merits and assessment criteria (2025-2026 academic year)

Students will be selected according to the following criteria:

• Assessment of the academic record of the official degree qualifying students for entrance to the doctoral programme, and experience (30%).

• An interview with the research group (30%).

• Research experience related to the specific research project, including scientific contributions such as publications, courses and participation in research projects in the field (25%).

• A letter of motivation (5%).

• A letter of reference - no more than two (5%).

• Other merits (5%).

• Merits and assessment criteria (2026-2027 academic year)

If there is no shortage of places, the admission body will be able to admit students without having to prioritise them on the basis of the merits. In case of being more applicants than places to the PD, the CVs of applicants will be valorated. The selection will be done according to the following criteria:

• Transcripts of records of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (50%)
• Research experience (30%)
• Possession of a scholarship or contract to elaborate the thesis (20%)
