- Introduction and objectives
The Doctoral Degree in Education aims to train students to become researchers capable of transforming education for the better, and to produce professionals with the competences needed to intervene in a constantly changing field by making use of the skills and knowledge acquired during their training as researchers.
In this context, the term education refers to the complex and dynamic ecosystem that includes factors such as the sociocultural context, the political and economic environment, educational institutions, educational stakeholders, teaching and learning processes, socio-educational interventions, infrastructure and resources, educational regulations and policies, and social dynamics and interpersonal relationships.
The programme recognises the complexity of education and the need to approach it in an interdisciplinary manner. Therefore, it integrates research and knowledge from various disciplines, such as pedagogy, social education, psychology, sociology and political science.
The Doctoral Degree in Education is inclusive and it reflects a commitment to addressing the reality of education in terms of its diversity and complexity and to working with all relevant perspectives and disciplines. For this reason, the name of the programme is deliberately broad so that it can encompass all the various research specialisations in education, from early childhood through to higher education.
