Gender Studies: Culture, Societies and Policies - Research lines

Contact

This line is designed to perform research aimed at establishing continuity between the private life and academic life of students, and at teaching values that allow them to establish equitable relationships between the sexes and with their social environment. It investigates the construction of new circuits that allow students to navigate between their own privacy and the acquisition of scientific and cultural knowledge. One of the key objectives is to highlight their knowledge of themselves and of the people around them in order to develop a universe of knowledge more closely tied to life experiences.

This line addresses female and male representations found in artistic media in our society: novels, theatre, film, television, press, etc. It also deals with the various ways in which these media are considered and accepted by the public from a gender perspective; sexist orientations that appear in the language, and discourses and literary characters that form an important basis of our culture. Finally, women's writing can capture the ways of looking at the outer and inner world, their own culture, their own experiences as women.

The gender perspective has enriched the study of social movements, cultures and political institutions, in addition to the processes of social promotion involving women in contemporary society. It has thereby enhanced the critical capacity regarding the history of women and gender, which has played a pioneering role in the establishment of these studies in Spain.
