Specific admission criteria of the doctoral programme

Specific requirements 

Students admitted most frequently have a master's degree in arts, humanities and social sciences. However, students from other fields may enter this course if they meet the academic requirements for enrolment.

In addition to the general entrance requirements, applicants must meet the following additional requirements: 

• A master's degree in Women, Gender and Citizenship Studies or one of the master's degrees belonging to the branches of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences of the participating universities (UB, UAB, UdG, UVIC-UCC and URV).

• Another national or foreign master's degrees related to the programme's theme, according to the specific studies of the applicants and their suitability for the programme's research lines.

• For foreign students, a level of understanding of Catalan equivalent to B1 and/or knowledge of Spanish equivalent to the Diploma de Español (Intermediate).

A level of understanding equivalent to B1 in any of the foreign languages ​​most used in the programme's field of studies, in particular English or French.

Merits and assessment criteria

Students will be selected and admitted according to the following assessment table:

• The previous qualification (between 0 and 2 points), based on the following criteria:

  • The master's degree in Women, Gender and Citizenship Studies and the master's degrees belonging to the branches of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences of the participating universities (UB, UAB, UdG, UVIC-UCC and URV) (2 points).

  • Other national and international master's degrees related to the theme of the programme. From 0 to 2 points are awarded for the applicant's specific studies and their suitability for the research lines of the doctoral programme in Gender Studies: Culture, Society and Policies.

• The academic record of the bachelor's degree or pre-EHEA degree qualifying the holder for entrance (up to 4 points, depending on the average grade).

• The academic record of the master's degree (up to 4 points, depending on the average grade). The average grade will be assessed on a scale from 0 to 4 divided by 2, or from 0 to 10 divided by 5. Correction factors will be applied to qualifications issued outside Spain, as provided for in the regulations of the ANECA programme.

• A letter of intent, a research proposal and letters of recommendation (up 2 points).

• The curriculum vitae (up to 4 points), assessed as follows:

  • Research experience in any of the areas covered by the theoretical and practical content of the doctoral programme (up 1 point).

  • Professional experience in any of the areas covered by the theoretical and practical content of the doctoral programme (up 1 point).

  • Publications, attendance of conferences or other activities related to the doctoral programme, such as participation in excavations, artistic activities, culture and heritage management, and field work (up to 1 point)

  • Having obtained competitive grants (other than mobility grants or general grants) for carrying out the master's degree (up to 1 point).

• Previous award of a grant for doctoral studies (3 points) or a grant application pending approval at the time of admission (1 point). Spanish grants equivalent to FI (research training) or FPU (university lecturer training) will be taken into consideration, as will competitive grants awarded in other countries.

• Other academic merits: international stays, knowledge of English, French, Portuguese, Italian or German (up to 1 point).
