European or International distinction in Doctorate’s degree

ITEM: procedure by which students can be included on the obverse of the qualification of doctor the distinction of "Europeus Doctor" or " International Doctor", if are fulfilled the requirements set out in the relevant regulations.

When	When the thesis is deposited
How	By presenting the following documents: Application form for the Distinction of "Europeus Doctor" or "International Doctor". Proof that the student has spent three months outside Spain at a higher education institute or research centre in a member state of the European Union (for the European label) or outside of Spain (for the International label), following a course of study or carrying out research which has been recognized by the URV. The stage and the activities must be assessed by the supervisor or co-supervisor and authorizes by the academic committee / entity responsible for the doctoral programme, and it will add in the Document of doctoral student’s activities.
Observations	a) Part of the doctoral thesis, at least the summary and the conclusions, must have been written and submitted in an official language of the European Union (for the European label) or in an usual language for scientific communication of it knowledge area, other than one of the official languages of Spain (for the International label). In the case of the International distinction, this regulation is not applied when the stages, reports and experts come from a Spanish speaking country. b) The thesis must have received a report from at least two experts belonging to a higher education institution or research institute from a member state of the European Union other than Spain (for European label) or not Spanish (for International label). c) The examination panel responsible for evaluating the thesis must contain at least one expert belonging to a higher education institution or research institute from a member state of the European Union other than Spain (for European label) or not Spanish (for International label). This person must hold the degree of doctor and not be the person responsible for the study visit abroad or one of the experts who drafted the written report (for European label) or must hold the degree of doctor and not be the person responsible for the study visit abroad (for International label). d) The oral examination must be held at the university in which the doctoral student is registered (for the European label). In the case of the International distinction, the oral examination could be held in the own university, or in university research institutions affiliated to the URV, or in the case of join doctoral programmes, in any of the participating universities according to the collaboration agreement.

Deposit for the issuance of the doctoral degree certificate with the European or International Distinction of Doctor

When	After the defence of the thesis and at the same time as the deposit is made for the issuance of the doctoral degree certificate.
How	Checking the Doctor Europeus or International Doctor box of the doctoral certificate application form
Observations	The certificates issued to doctoral students whose programmes are regulated by RD 56/2005, of 21 January, have the award of the European PhD specified on the obverse. The doctoral students whose programmes are regulated by RD 1393/2007, of 30 October, and who have defended their thesis in accordance with the Regulations governing the European or International Doctorate have a right to be issued a doctor's degree certificate that states the distinction of "European or International doctor". The doctoral students whose programmes are regulated by decrees prior to those mentioned above and who satisfy the same requirements have a right to be issued a certificate that certifies the award of the European PhD.
